Athena's Trip

Last year I heard of a very interesting alumni activity at TU Darmstadt. Athena was going on a trip! The greek goddess Athena is the symbol of TU Darmstadt since she is the patron of the arts and the sciences. The plan was as follows. A sign plate with the logo of the university should go on a worldwide trip visiting alumni of TU Darmstadt that moved abroad after graduating. I joined the activity, and soon the organizers included a stop in Madrid as part of the trip. Unfortunately, the plan did not work out exactly as expected. The postal network is a rather lossy network, and thus Athena got lost somewhere in Europe :(

Once the loss became clear, the organizers rescued Athena and the trip continued. A few days ago she arrived at my office in Madrid. Today I took a picture with her on the rooftop terrace of the Círculo de Bellas Artes with the famous Metropolis building in the background. The place was perfect, since the terrace features a large statue of Minerva, which is the roman equivalent to Athena. Unfortunately, the sun was right behind Minerva, but I still could take a second picture with Athena next to a smaller statue of Minerva inside the building. The next and last stop of Athena before returning to Darmstadt is Turkey, so she still has to travel a bit!

Today I was wearing my personalized ilole t-shirt that I got while in Darmstadt :)
